Manchester United's famous academy has produced exceptional talents over the last decade. Talents like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Bobby Charlton, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu Mensah, and many more. All had a dream of playing for the first team and win trophies. They all achieved their dreams and become legends. Now the current generation or they say the 'Class of 2016' consisting of wonderkids like Rashford, Lingard, Fosu Mensah who were in great form last season.
Let's lay emphasis on Fosu Mensah. The Dutch sensation at a slender age of 19 he is a versatile defender who can play anywhere. Right back, Centre back, Left back and also as a central defensive midfielder. Having been called up by Van Gaal last season about the same time dye to significant injuries to players, he became a very good utility player to cover up for the regulars. Many pundits touted him for success. With immense potential and versatility required for a modern footballer he clearly is the star in making and his future looks delightful.
This season under new management of Mourinho he has been rather not featuring, mainly due to competition and inexperience. Fosu Mensah is a quick, aggressive and technical player who loves to charge towards strikers and makes runs in the opposing half. He may be big but has a body of a centre back, qualities of a full back, pace of a winger and technical mind set of a Midfielder. These qualities of attack, defend and absorb pressure will be very useful for United, but only if utilized. He is still a raw talent who needs guidance and experience to succeed. A player of such caliber can't just sit on the bench. OK not sit on the bench but Sir in the stands, watching his team mates overpass him.
Let's look on what has gone wrong with him and how can the gaffer improve upon him.
Fosu Mensah who was called up from the academy only as a cover up, has now got a name tag of a cover up. Even though showing early promise he has not got the chance to impress. OK there is loads of competition, Centre back like Smalling, Bailly, Jones, Rojo, Blind, Tuanzebe .The Centre back position is out of question. On the full back with Valencia, Darmain, Shaw, Blind, Rojo, Young . He can try out the Right back where there is less competition but only a monopoly of Valencia and a back up in Young. He is rather ineffective in left back even though he is capable of playing there. In CDM we have Fellaini, Carrick and Schweinsteiger. This is his target area. Carrick and Schweinsteiger are ageing. Fosu Mensah has not reached the point where he can succeed, he doesn't even know where he will play at United, but due to his abilities he can aim for the Central defensive Midfield. Position.
The Solution.
The only solution is to loan him out for a season. Currently he doesn’t have a future to be frank if he sits and rots in the stands. Having missed out in FA Cup games, Europa League games where United had a lead, and the most recent put of the Rostov squad. These valuable minutes can help him get his momentum back and help him rediscover his position at United. Also to impress the Boss by showing that he is not a cover up but a player of the future and with loads of potential. He seriously is one for the future and we can't let him get frustrated like McNair and Love and leave the club for good. A loan to a Championship club or a lower European team would be ideal. He will get first team minutes, experience, position understanding and game time. He has just made 7 appearences for the Red Devils this season
What do you think. Is his future bright at United or elsewhere. Will he get a chance, or a loan move
