Ivan Perisic. Target Analysis

The season is over and United have finished it with style by wining three trophies and booking a place for next year's Champions League group stage which is a very good achievement for United and a great start for the Mourinho Era.

With Champions League football attained, United will have to bolster their squad with quality signings in order to fight for Europe's top football crown.Jose has not commented on his specific transfer targets, but has stated that club CEO Ed Woodward has his full list of targets. With the likes of Griezmann, Rodriguez, Keane all linked with a move to United, there has also a rumor of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic linked with a switch from the Italy to Manchester

Style Of Play :

Ivan Perisic is a fast, technical winger with an unusual left foot action which makes him  quite an orthodox winger. He is more of a crosser and loves cutting in with the ball from the left wing of the attacking half. He has a very predictable action of often usage of the fake shot which is his best asset in getting past incoming full backs. He loves opening spaces inside the penalty area so that he provide support to the strikers and attacking midfielders to finish. He has an average crossing accuracy but after he cuts through and opens up the space, he tends to supply a low grounded cross to his team mates which generally is quite accurate. 

His attacking is quite decent. He tends to run inside the box via the wing so that he can finish with a low volley and via a header, due to his height advantage. His pace is a great factor in his attack. His agility and his orthodox wing play helps him bag few goals behind the net. Scored 10 goals in the league this season 

How can he help and fit in Manchester United ? 

Due to Ivan's technicality and cut ins via the left wing, he can help create more chances with his orthodox action and ability to get past defenders and his accurate supply of ground crosses. United have been weak on the wings this season particularly on the left. With no consistency from an erratic Martial, and depending on Rashford who has been spectacular in the second half of the season. With one more speculation of Griezmann joining United.  If he ends up joining United, they will have a very lethal strike force with Griezmann as a right winger, Mkhitaryan as a CAM and Perisic on the left and his back up Pogba in behind. If Perisic joins it will result in either Martial to start as a striker or be on the bench. Perisic will also offer valuable experience as an attacker and an experienced left winger.

Tactical Options With Perisic. 

1.  In a 4 - 3 - 3 formation the defense will pass the ball to the midfielders Herrera and Pogba who will have the following options. Pass it to Mkhitaryan the CAM, either of the wide men or the main striker. Imagine Pogba being Ivan's support. A long ball via Pogba and with the pace of Perisic he can cut through via the left. Open up space in the penalty box and with Martial, Griezmann, Pogba in side the box a low grounded cross will in a one on one situation with the goalkeeper. Tall players like Pogba, Fellaini can stay on the edge of the box for a header chance. 

2. In the same formation with Pogba and Mkhitaryan in attacking midfield roles can pass the ball to Perisic who can run with the ball past the defenders via the wing to shoot the ball. 

Threats :

The only threat of this potential deal would be Martial's future in jeopardy. Martial has been in fine form this season, but a few performances have caught the eye of the manager, who trusts Rashford more than him. Martial's form hasn't been like the one in his first year which stellar ending up has the top scorer for the Reds. If he joins. Martial may be sold, sent on loan or gone down the pecking order as he will have some serious competition for a starting berth. 

Financial :

Inter Milan have stated that they want 55 to 60 million euros for Perisic. United have reportedly placed a 35 million euro bid for the Croatia International. With all the transfers in Ed Woodward's hand he will definitely be wanting to get his man but a bid of 55 million would be too much for a 28 year old. But who knows? It would be an ideal signing if United bid in a maximum of 40 to 42 million euros not more than that. Even if they buy him for 42 million he will definitely have to face the fans and media criticism. He will certainly have to perform well, live up to his ' huge ' price tag and will have to perform well. Who knows he could guide United to another title just like Van Persie did in his first season at the age of 29. United want him on a 4 year contract with an undisclosed wage bill.  

Verdict :

United should move for him. He is a good utility quality, experienced and technical winger and fits the bill in the United system. He will strengthen the much shaken left wing. At 28 he is great, but there are many younger and better wingers in the market who United should consider, but Perisic would be a cheaper, older and quality version of a modern winger. Would be a great asset and a valuable asset if got for the right price.
