Manchester United Legends Who became Famous by Joining United From Small Clubs

In recent years Europe has been the hot-spot for future talent and Legendary players mainly being Scandinavia Portugal and The Netherlands. But Did you know the Famous Manchester United Legends Who became Famous by Joining United From these small clubs?

1. Eric Cantona
Eric Cantona may have joined from Leeds but had a great run in France his home country. He joined United from Leeds for 1.2 million and ended up with them for 5 years and scoring 80 goals in nearly 5 seasons. Starting from the year 1992.

2. Ruud van Nistelrooy
Ruud van Nistelrooy joined United in the year 2000 from Dutch side PSV for a record fee of 18.5 million. He departed for Real Madrid after 5 years for United and scoring 150 goals in 219 appearances.

3. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed for United from Norwegian side Molde after a bid of 1.5 million was accepted during the on going 1996 European Championship. He scored 91 goals in 235 appearances for United from 1996 to 2007.

4 . Peter Schmeichel 

The Legendary Danish keeper who is arguably one of the best Keeper's of Manchester United was signed from Danish side Brondby for a fee of 505, 000 thousand pounds. Sir Alex said as a 'Bargain of the century' . He spent his time at United from 1991 to 1999 with 292 appearances for the club. He was a wall of the goal and Captained United in the 1999 Treble year and helped them win the Champions League in 1999 and The Euro win with Denmark in 1992. He till now is a motivational factor for all of United Keeper's and like father like son Kasper Schmeichel helped Leicester win their Fairytale title last season. 

5.Jaap Stam 

In 1998 Jaap Stam became the most expensive defender and the most expensive Dutch player after his switch from PSV to Manchester United for 10.5 million. His United career was a brief three years but still played brilliant in those three years and became a Legend at United. He was controversially sold to Lazio. 

6.Edwin Van Der Saar. 

After Schmeichel Van der Saar was signed by Sir Alex from Fulham from a reported fee of 2 million pounds and was considered as the best Goalkeeper after Schmeichel. Van der Saar won many awards with Manchester United and also many individual awards like Premier League Golden Glove, UEFA keeper of the year. The towering Dutchman was an influential part of Manchester United  from 2005 to 2011 after he was succeeded by current goalie David De Gea. Van der Saar was also the oldest player to win the Premier League at the age of 40! Due to such great determination and performance he is the one the world's Legendary Keeper's. 

7. Nemanja Vidic 

Vidic considered as the best defender's of United and also a United loyalist and current supporter was a strikers nightmare. The big Serbian was signed by Sir Alex from Spartak  Moscow in 2005 January for a fee of 7 million pounds. He was one of the best Defender's and also one of the best United January signings. On joining he said that Joining  United was Thrilling and it's  everyone's dream  to join United and  it's the most famous club that you can ever imagine. He was famous for being one of the best United Capitans and also for his friendship on and off the pitch with Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra. He is a mentor for Bailly and Smalling. He eventually became a Legend and left for Inter 2014 and after a season announced his retirement. 

8.Patrice Evra 

He may not be considered as a Legend at United by few but was one of the best Left backs for Manchester United. He was signed by Sir Alex for a fee of 5.5 million from Monaco in 2006 January. He was a great Defender, pacy great at crosses and was great friends with Ferdinand and Vidic. And is a good pal of Paul Pogba. In 2014 he was sold to Juventus for 1.5 million. But has been an important player at United if not a Legend. 

9. Cristiano Ronaldo. 

We saved the best for the last. One of the best players on  the planet and Real Madrid main man rose to fame during his tenure at Manchester United. Sir Alex said that he was the next Legend of United and the world when he saw him play with Sporting CP in Portugal during an exhibition match against United. Ronaldo impressed Sir Alex so much, that he ended up signing him from Sporting at the age of 19 and for a fee of 12.24 million in 2003. He was the wearer of the Famous no 7 shirt which was worn by great Cantona, George Best and David Beckham. He won many titles at United and also many individual awards like the Ballon D'or, World Player of the year, Fifa pro Player of the year, Peoples Player of the year, European Golden Shoe, Premier League Golden Boot, United player of the year, Premier League player of the year. He was just a Defender's nightmare with his tricks, agility and Free kicks, long shots. He formed a deadly partnership with Wayne Rooney. He was sold to Real Madrid for a record fee of 80 Million in 2009. He still considers Manchester United and Sir Alex as his mentor and a father figure and is still in touch with him. In an interview he stated that All he is today for Real Madrid is because of Manchester United and Sir Alex who nurtured him and made him what he is today! After Leaving some people say that he has left a curse on the no. 7 shirt because no one is worthy enough to wear it. As whoever wore it could not shine like him and Carry on the legacy forward. In relation to Angel Di Maria and Memphis Depay who were sold because they couldn't not perform and took the no 7 shirt lightly. Till date many United fans consider him a Legend and want him back. But now the jinx of no 7 could be over with the potential arrival of Antoine Griezmann. But as for Ronaldo What a Legend and a Great Manchester United  Player! He scored 84 goals in 196 appearances for United.
