Players Who Could Be Sold To Make Way For New Signings In January

Jose Is Wanted By PSG.

Manchester United welcomed the International friendlies with a bitter loss against Chelsea in the weekend. The loss caused a serious social media stir involving few fans, who wanted the manager, Jose Mourinho to be sacked. All this was heated by the rumours of PSG contacting Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes over his client’s availability over a possible switch to Paris, should the situation at Old Trafford worsens and Jose’s job comes under scrutiny. Jose, admitted his admiration to manage PSG someday and said that he won’t be at United for a long time. With recent reports coming in from the United camp, saying that if Jose wants to bolster his squad in January, he will have to sell his fringe players first in order to obtain funds and sign new players. This could mean that the board will be strict and play hardball with the manager due to the recent dip in form. Jose had mentioned that he would want the clubs backing in the winter transfer market as they failed to provide him with his fourth signing in the summer. United are in need of a left back a creative midfielder and attacking winger. United are 8 points adrift off Manchester City and an upgrade in the key areas of the squad in January would surely strengthen the hopes of winning the title.

Last year, Mourinho did a little cleaning spree in January and sold off Memphis Depay to Lyon for 22 million pounds with a buy-back clause inserted to keep tabs on his development as the club could move for him should he attain fine form and also the fact that he is only 23. He also sold Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton for 24 million pounds, followed by Bastian Schweinsteiger leaving for Chicago Fire on a free transfer a little later. Jose didn’t make any signings that window but, got over 50 million through the sale of the above players. In the summer, Jose sold Adnan Januzaj to La Liga side, Real Sociedad for a fee of 8.5 million pounds, relieved Wayne Rooney of his contract and let him re-join Everton and loaned out Andreas Pereira, Sam Johnstone, Cameroon Borthwick-Jackson, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Regan Poole, Dean Henderson and Matty Willock. As Jose wants to add new signings in January, let’s see which players could be sold and an estimated transfer value for each.

1.       Luke Shaw.
The first name on our list, Shaw has had a tough time at United since joining from Southampton. With injuries a normal thing for him, the English left back is finding it difficult to fit in Jose’s plans. Ashley Young now his favoured left back, Jose has many options on the bench with Rojo, Blind and Darmian all capable to play left back. But, United still lack that specialist factor which no of them acquire. However, Shaw can still turn the tide around as he is still young and stepping up his injury rehabilitation. Mourinho wants Shaw to stay at the club and wants him to go out on loan in January, but should a situation arise that the club may have to sell him to attain funds, Shaw will be the first to be axed, with a swap with Danny Rose on the cards. But, the player is reluctant to stay and fight for his place. He has 1 year left on his current contract.
Given his age and potential, United can get 30 million for him with the right buyer.

Shaw Could Be The First One To Be Axed.

2.       Marouane Fellaini.
The Big Belgian has caused a social media frenzy lately. All the way from suing his boot manufacturer to his United future being in a limbo. Fellaini has less than a year remaining in his current deal and the club have allowed him to talk to other clubs. In the wake of his recent performances, Fellaini has been earning lot of praise from the fans and the manager. He is said to be Jose’s most trusted and favoured student and always is backed by the manager even if the media start criticising him. All this praise has shockingly not earned him a new deal, as some sources claim that the player isn’t happy with the revised pay package that is offered to him. However, the club are still trying to keep the player, but don’t want him to leave the club on a free transfer next summer by signing a pre-contract with another club in January should an offer come by. He will not go for a lot due to his remaining time, but it will be sensible to let him go for cheap rather than nothing at all. Many Turkish Super League and Chinese Super League sides are interested in his signature.
Should a situation arise, United can get 15-20 million off him.

Fellaini Is A Wanted Man In January.

3.       Juan Mata
Juan Mata is an important player for United but also one who has 1 year remaining on his contract. It will be very unlikely that he will leave and will get a new contract extension. At 29, Mata is a very technically gifted winger and creative attacking midfielder. His consistency and technical ability make him the smartest players on the pitch. However, he isn’t fast enough. A player with such ability and calibre, is an asset to any team. With this said, Real Madrid are interested in signing him in January and so are neighbours Manchester City. City, are rivals and title contenders, Jose won’t let him go that easy. Should City make an approach, United can hold back for 25 million. Madrid on the other hand is different. Juan could be tempted with a return to his homeland, Spain, and given the recent transfer history with Madrid, Ed Woodward will surely play hardball and counter any offer. He could be sold, should Jose want an upgrade in his desired position of an attacking winger.
His ideal price should be 20-27 million.

Real Madrid And Manchester City Are Wanting To Sign Mata.

4.       Matteo Darmian.
Should Jose give Shaw one more chance, the next defender in line to get axed is Matteo Darmain. Since starting in the Europa League final, Darmian has been a rather squad player or a back-up to either Valencia or Young. The Italian international is not finding it easy nowadays in the team, with Jose preferring more attacking minded full backs to him. He lacks the pace and attacking ability required in Mourinho’s 3-5-2 formation and clearly doesn’t fit in anymore. He rarely starts except in cup games. He has made only 8 appearances for the club this season and would definitely consider moving away in winter. Daley Blind and Ashley Young are ahead of him and are way better. He expressed his desire to return to Italy and we can expect an offer coming United’s way pretty soon. As signing a left back is priority, Darmain would well make way for the new arrival, should it happen. He could leave due to lack of game time. Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in signing him.
Based on his current situation, age and ability United can get around 15-20 million for him.

Darmian Could Leave For Italy And Herrera Has Less Than A Year Remaining.

5.       Ander Herrera
The least probable transfer that could happen in January is of Herrera. United’s Player of The Year has been very important for club, even though the boss prefers Pogba, Fellaini and Matic ahead of him. Recently, with Pogba and Fellaini injured, he was started match after match alongside Matic in midfield. Technically gifted, great vision, great leadership qualities and hunger for success has made Ander a fan favourite over the years. He controls the game and plays with his mind and feet. Unfortunately, this would be the scariest and shocking transfers that could happen in January as he has less than a year left on his contract and not yet offered an extension. The gaffer is wanting to extend his contract and the player is keen too, but the club hasn’t started negotiations yet. The player is fully committed to the club and will not leave. Barcelona and Real Madrid  have registered an interest, but this is a transfer that will not happen. We are confident that Herrera will sign a new deal.

However, should he want to leave or the club decide to sell him, they can easily get 30-35 or more for him.
