Luke Shaw: Will He Find His Form Fast?

Shaw Has Returned From Injury.

Having being suffering from a long-term injury last season, Manchester United defender, Luke Shaw has been taking a positive step towards his injury recovery and rehabilitation. Side-lined due to a significant ligament injury, Shaw was benched rested, not on the bench but once again on the treatment table for more than six months. Determined to recover and regain his fitness fast, Shaw started off with his rehabilitation. Once fit earlier this season he was given a chance to prove himself by playing with the reserve squad multiple times, in a hope to regain his confidence and match fitness. During his time with the reserves, Shaw started once as a left back, his main position and also as a centre back who had been given a bit more advanced role by reserve boss Ricky Sbragia to get toward and provide support to the attackers with his pace. He flourished and impressed.

Coming back to the present, reports have been coming in that Luke has regained optimum match fitness and is ready to feature for the first-team again and help the team in the hunt for Premier League success. Shaw, 22, has seemed to catch Mourinho’s eye and slowly regaining his trust. Shaw was expected to return back in action in mid-October, has now sped up the process and is ready to be back in action for United in this busy month of September. However, he has just recovered so it’s unlikely he is ready to start a full fledge Premier League game. Many say that he is available for selection for the Everton match, but with Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian already contesting for the left back spot, it doesn’t look soon enough before Luke gets his first start of the season, Unless Jose starts him in the upcoming Wednesday night Carabao Cup fixture against Burton.

United, the winners of the previously called League Cup will kick off their title defence against a comparatively weaker and smaller club, Burton. We may see some notable chances and rest given to important players and opportunities for young academy products, Axel Tuanzebe, Joel Pereira, Demi Mitchell, Scott McTominay, Angel Gomes or even Luke Shaw as he could be tested against weaker teams before he is prepared to face high intensive Premier League attackers. Blind has been dominating the left back spot and has become the main man ahead of Darmian and Shaw, is expected to start vs Everton and Darmian could be the first choice against Burton. This could not hamper Shaw’s determination to start as Mourinho tends to give his just recovered players a substitute appearance or a short cameo in the last ten minutes of the game, given the score and situation.

Daley Blind Currently Dominates The Left Back Spot

Shaw’s early recovery could turn out to be a blessing for United as the team will get one more attacking full back option in the squad and Shaw could help support Blind with the dangerous, fast runs inside the attacking wings, and support the attackers. United have been lacking in that area and given Shaw’s quality of an attacking mentalism, Jose could cure the support woes and strengthen the attack by those much-required crosses inside the box. Shaw has the pace, agility and technicality that United have lacked and his imminent arrival would strengthen the squad, provide more options and take a little steam off Blind’s back and support him. Given Jose’s desire to implement a three-man defence with wing backs, it could slowly become a reality with Jose having more options and with Valencia and Young on the right and Blind and Shaw on the left, we could very well see a high octane United attack with extra defensive wingers to support the main attack. All this would only be possible with a fit and fine Shaw with a rejuvenated form. The early he gets his mojo back, the better it is for the team and him, as his future is still hanging and dependant on his form. Good form could just save him his future and the club few millions as Jose was looking to sell him off and get a better full back. In his press conference, Jose confirmed about Shaw’s availability by saying, “Luke Shaw is not injured anymore so it’s a question of form, it’s a question of option. But is not injured, he's recovered.”

This will start his make or break season in a hunt to stay at the club and regain his starting place simultaneously keeping fit and not getting injured.

What do you think, will his form return in time?
